FlexxFit: A Review

I first found FlexxFit about 2 years ago now. I was drawn in by the bright colours and affordable prices and it is one of the best discoveries I have made!

IMG_5190

The first pair I got was the Cranberry ‘Go Higher’ (or something like that) which they no longer do, they’ve moved onto better things. I still reach for these a lot even though I’ve had them a while. The colour hasn’t faded at all and they still fit really well, however the colour does transfer a little bit when you wear a light coloured top that covers it. The transferred colour comes out in the wash though so I’m not too mad about it. They still sell this colour just in the new design and fabric.

When they brought out their new ‘Luxe’ leggings I ordered a pair with the matching crossover bra. Due to it being new product there was a whole kerfuffle which meant I had to wait ages (I think it was about 3 months in the end) for these to arrive but the customer service was impeccable. They kept me informed every step of the way and provided me with a discount code valid for the next 2 years as an apology.

The material of the luxe leggings are thick and soft, and the fit is really flattering. The waist hits at a really good point and they have a good level of compression on the stomach area.

I have these in steel grey, spiced pumpkin which is a burnt orange colour and seafoam which is a blue/green colour.

IMG_0263

I also have a pair of their heart contour leggings. I really like the detailing on these and the pockets are life changing! However, they don’t come up as high as the luxe leggings and so I don’t find them quite as flattering. These are in the colour ‘mystic merlot’ which is a dusty pink colour. They also do these in the luxe legging style.

I have all of these in a size small and am a UK 10/12, the leggings are all £29.99 which is great value for money and they very often have sales making them even cheaper.

Like everyone else I love a matching gym set so naturally I have the matching bras for 3 of the leggings…

IWY5dQuXRNeNl02KgdmtRg

I have the steel grey crossover bra, mystic merlot luxe v tape bra and the spiced pumpkin scoop neck bra. These come up quite small so I have these in medium or large, and even then it can be a bit risky when doing HIIT!

The bras are £24.99, but if you pick your timing right they have them on offer for as low as £9.99!

These are so worth the money and if I could I would have these in every single colour, I just don’t have the drawer space (or the bank balance lets be honest).

Shreddy Resistance Bands Review

My thoughts on Grace Fit UK’s resistance bands. Are they worth the money? Did they make a difference to my workout? Would I recommend them?

Shreddy Resistance Bands Review

Recently I have been really bad at getting to the gym, a lot of things have changed for me and so fitness has taken a bit of a back seat. Anyway in an attempt to get back into the swing of things (and minimise possible excuses) I thought I would invest in some decent resistance bands. My old ones are too thin and dig in to my legs whenever I use them, so I don’t really reach for them. I have heard really good things about Grace’s resistance bands so I thought I would give them a try.

Facetune_30-09-2018-17-28-29
So I picked up the light (blue) and the heavy (peach) bands (the medium was sold out) and for 2 bands I paid £25 a single band was £14* (I think). I ordered these late on Wednesday and they got to me by Saturday morning which is pretty fast I think. They come in a resealable plastic pouch which is nice if you want to store them properly but honestly I can’t be bothered with that!

All of Grace’s products come with a selection of workouts or to use the proper name “Booty Burners” which you can access on an app called Aflete or you can download the PDF emailed to you when you make your purchase. There are several different styles of workout:
Resistance Band Glute Activation
Non-Resistance Band Glute Activation
Resistance Band Glute Burnouts
Non-Resistance Band Glute Burnouts
Home Glute Workouts – these consist of exercises with and without resistance bands.

In order to do a proper review I thought I would use the bands to complete a variety of the Booty Burners. So today I did a Resistance Band Glute Activation workout followed by a Home Glute Workout and finished off with a Resistance Band Glute Burnout. I decided to use the light band because its been a while since I exercised so my strength isn’t as good as it was.

Did I feel the burn? HELL YES!

I honestly don’t think I will be able to sit down comfortably tomorrow! I really liked the workouts as they’re all quite short so if you haven’t got a lot of time these are perfect. Also they’re all body weight exercises so perfect when the gym is busy and there isn’t any equipment available. The app is super easy to use and I like how easy it makes accessing the workouts.

Are they worth the money? They are very good quality and I understand that they have to make a profit so I would say they are worth the money. I would definitely buy a bundle rather than a one off product though to get better value for money.

Would I recommend these? Yes, I was afraid that they were over hyped just because of the name on them but they are definitely as good as everyone says they are. I like that you get workouts with them which definitely helps if you need a bit of inspiration or are a complete beginner. They are also really pretty, the colours are so cute and the little logo is a really nice touch.

These are currently sold out but I believe they are restocking soon

Buy them here

* I bought these when they were first released under the Grace Fit UK brand, they have since become B_ND and now fall under the Shreddy umbrella. Prices were correct at time of writing in 2018 but may have since changed.

FlexxFit: A Review

When you own five pairs of leggings from the same brand you know it’s time for a review…

Queenie Ke: A Review

Today I am reviewing two different style of legging from the brand Queenie Ke sold on amazon. Queenie Ke approached me to send some of their leggings to me to review and as self confessed legging addict I couldn’t very well pass up the opportunity!

IMG_0138

First up is the “Queenie Ke Women Yoga Leggings Ninth Pants Power Flex High Waist Gym Running Tights” – such a catchy name – in the colour teal. I ordered a size small and they fit perfectly. They’re good and stretchy but still tight enough on the waist. All of the Queenie Ke leggings have an elastic in the top for tightening the waist as well as a large phone pocket inside on the back of the leggings. IMG_0233

These hit the perfect point on my waist, not too high and not too low!
I really like this colour too, its different to anything I own. Good for spring (if we ever have one!) because its colourful but still dark enough for days when its a bit grey and you don’t want to crack out anything too light or bright.

IMG_0232   The stitching on the back is slightly curved which is nice and flattering on the booty. Straight seams can create a sort of double butt look…no one wants that! The curved seam sits above the booty giving it a nice shape.

The material is thick enough to be squat proof but still breathable so they’re sweat proof as well.
All in all these get a 10/10 from me! And only £15.88!

IMG_0074
The second pair is the “Queenie Ke Women Yoga Legging Power Flex High Waist Running Pants Workout Tights” in space dye purple again in size small and these ones cost £16.88. These fit well BUT omg the high waist is SO high, these are not made for my gals with short torsos! They come all the way up to my sports bra! They don’t have any compression either so theres not really any advantage to this super super high waist.

These have a straight seam but its high enough that the leggings are still flattering. The seams on the legs are slightly slanted so really make your quads pop. All in all a nice flattering fit.
The material of these is more shiny than the other leggings, and the elasticity can be mistaken for sheerness. Definitely squat proof though – I put these through two heavy leg days and they fared really well! They were nice and breathable and didn’t show sweat at all!

The colour is really cute and the space dye effect is a nice way to add pattern and texture without it being too in your face.
IMG_0231

I think I would give these an 8/10. Comfy but the waist is too high! Its almost double the size of the other leggings! That being said the quality is great for such a cheap pair of leggings.

Both leggings come in a selection of colours and for a cheeky 5% you can use these codes:

Amazon UK: QUEENIEK
Amazon US: QUEENIEUS
Amazon CA: QUEENIEC

February Favourites

Lets jump right in!

Facetune_22-02-2018-18-38-58

First up is this cute set from Flexxfit. The material is so soft and comfy, the bra is super flattering (although maybe only for low intensity exercise for risk of nip slip!) and I’m a big fan of this colour. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about the grey but it makes a nice change from black while still being plain enough to go with plenty of colours.  But if you’re not feeling the grey it comes in plenty of other colours. I wear the bra in a medium and the leggings in a small and I’m a UK 10/12.

IMG_9618

Keeping with flexxfit, this “Muscle tee” has been my go to workout top since I nabbed it in the sale. Its not the most breathable workout top but its nice and loose so you don’t notice as much. Loose enough to hide a food baby but not so loose its unflattering and it goes with everything! Including the grey set. Who doesn’t love matching activewear eh!? Look good feel good ima right! Sadly it’s sold out now but they have loads of other cute stuff. I wear this one in a size small and it fits perfectly, if you wanted a looser fit I would size up.

IMG_9999

Now lets mix it up and talk about my favourite skin care product this month. Simple skin quench sleeping cream. Since using this my face is so soft and glowy! I have very sensitive skin so I have to be careful what I use but simple always works for me so when I decided to up my skincare game after a few breakouts I went straight for simple. This moisturiser is ideal for me as its a night cream rather than a morning one, I like sleep to much to get up in time to do a full skincare routine of a morning. Its nice and light too so doesn’t clog any pores. All around winner!

IMG_0005

Next up is my new favourite app! Recently I’ve been trying to branch out with my cooking and I came across “kitchen stories”. Its full of how to guides as well as recipes. You can also leave a review of the recipe meaning before you try something you can see what other people thought of them. It has a shopping list feature and also a “cookbook” and likes section so you can save all your favourite recipes in one easy to find place. Its made working out what to eat much easier! Would highly recommend to anyone who isn’t confident in the kitchen.

fullsizeoutput_1e71Finally its back to active wear (shocking I know) and the myprotein seamless leggings. I know I already reviewed these but I had to give them a little mention because they’re so comfy and proved perfect for layering when storm Emma hit over the weekend! Loving the colour of these as well as the fit and feel.

And thats it for my February faves!

Gymshark VS Myprotein: A review

Everyone raves about the gymshark flex leggings and as a result it can be tricky to get your hands on a pair unless you are online as soon as they go live. So when I came across the myprotein seamless leggings which bare a striking resemblance to the flex leggings I thought they were worth investigating…

THE BASICS

fullsizeoutput_158

Flex
:

Material: 56% Nylon 41% Polyester 3% Elastane
Colour: Blueberry marl
Size: I wear a size S and am a UK 10/12 – they are very very stretchy
Squat proof: YES I always feel safe to wear these on leg day
Waist: mid-rise
Price: £32

fullsizeoutput_1e71

Seamless:

Material: 57% Nylon 40% Polyester 3% Elastane
Colour: Marble Green
Size: I wear a size M – I wear a M in other myprotein leggings, definitely fit true to the size guide on the site
Squat proof: YES
Waist: mid-rise
Price: £32

Both leggings have two tone contouring and I have to say while the contouring on the flex legging is more flattering it’s not very subtle, I much prefer the contouring on the seamless legging which is still flattering but not as in your face!

The waist band on the flex legging is much tighter than the seamless but this could be due to the fact that I have a small in the flex and a medium in the seamless. The waist band on the seamless is therefore more comfortable.

Both leggings are low to mid-rise and I’m more of a high waisted kinda gal myself but these sit at a good point on the waist.

The flex leggings come in a much larger range of colours compared to the seamless. The seamless comes in 4 colours whereas the flex comes in 12 colours. That being said a few of the flex colours do appear to be very similar.

Both leggings cost £34 however myprotein frequently offer deals and discounts so if you wait for one of those the seamless would be cheaper.

CONCLUSION…

These leggings are basically the same, I mean just look at the material they’re nearly identical! I just wish the seamless legging came in a larger variety of colours. Cost wise obviously the seamless is better as they are frequently discounted and also more likely to be in stock. However the majority of the flex leggings do appear to be in stock at the moment.
All in all I wouldn’t say one is better than the other, both are very good pairs of leggings. Personally I do prefer the seamless just because they are more comfortable on the waist but I’m not ready to put away my flex leggings for good just yet!

FlexxFit: A Review

Top tips for gym newbies

New Years resolutions. We all make them and at some point or another one of those resolutions will probably be to join a gym or to eat healthy. Realistically most people don’t keep their resolutions and give up on them by the middle of January. So I thought what better post to write than some things that helped me when I made the same resolution this time last year.

  1. Shop around – don’t just join the first gym you find! Lots of gyms do free trials so you can decide if it is going to work for you. Picking a gym that’s convenient and easy to get to is a great idea for those times when you can’t really be bothered. Pick a gym thats close to work/uni or on your way home and take your gym stuff with you.
  2. Organise a gym induction – this will make you feel more comfortable when you go on your own.
  3. Plan your workout – so you don’t feel like a lost and headless chicken wondering around when you get there. It also gives you the opportunity to look up how to do exercises properly. There are so many free workouts out there which brings me to my next point…
  4. Follow a couple of motivational accounts on Instagram – great for workout ideas and keeping you motivated! A quick search for workouts will give you lots and lots of videos and posts with workouts you can do
  5. Invest in a couple of cute gym outfits – the saying look good feel good really does apply! You don’t have to break the bank, take advantage of the January sales or places like primark do cute gym wear for cheap.
  6. Get a gym buddy – not always possible but definitely motivational! When I joined the gym I joined with my housemate and for at least the first month we went together until I felt comfortable to go on my own

And if getting healthy is your goal….

  1. Drink lots of water – make it a target to drink more it will make a huge difference to how you feel and is a nice easy starting point to ease yourself in!
  2. You don’t need to eat chicken and veg for every meal! Mix it up, pick up a healthy recipe book and aim to make a couple of meals from this a week
  3. Download an app to help keep track of calories – one of the biggest issues people have is eating portions that are too big, tracking calories is an easy way to stay on track BUT don’t restrict yourself! If you want that chocolate bar then you eat that chocolate bar.

And finally….

DON’T BEAT YOURSELF UP IF YOU “FALL OFF THE WAGON!” If you miss one workout or have that takeaway you said you wouldn’t don’t just give up. Life gets in the way and its important to enjoy life! You don’t have to be healthy all day everyday to make progress or feel better in yourself. Just keep at it and remember to enjoy yourself.

The gym should be enjoyed and shouldn’t feel like a chore. If it does you are way less likely to stick to it!

Happy New Year and best of luck sticking to your resolutions whatever they may be!

What’s in my gym bag

My gym essentials. The things that live in my gym bag and I couldn’t live without them! As a new gym goer I had no clue what I needed and over time I’ve worked out what I need to have the best workout!

Just Strong : A Review

So today we are not just talking about leggings (who’s shook) because I did a haul – sorry bank account – from JUST STRONG

Firstly I need to talk about the idea behind this company because it is so great.

“I AM NOT STRONG FOR A GIRL, I AM JUST STRONG”

Because who doesn’t love being stereotyped. Going to the gym shouldn’t be about being skinny it should be about pushing yourself to get stronger. As a girl who enjoys going to the gym I do often get the comments like “but you don’t want to get bulky” no you’re right I don’t “you don’t want to look manly” who said that men were the only ones allowed to have muscles? So when I saw what this brand represented I thought it was pretty damn awesome and I am fortunate enough to be affiliated with them – that being said this will be a completely HONEST review because I gain absolutely nothing by lying to you.

Now that I’ve bored you suitably with my little feminist rant lets get into the review…

Links to everything I talk about will be at the bottom of the post

Since I do have a love (addiction?) of gym leggings we will start with those.

So these are the Charcoal Camo Just Strong Leggings and I got them in a size medium. They are 90% polyester 10% elastane. Fit wise I wish I had gone for a size small just because they are a little too big on the waist. That being said they are very flattering. The seam down the side of the leg acts as a sort of contouring which I really like. As well as the camo print there is a hexagonal honeycomb like pattern but it’s so subtle it definitely doesn’t distract from the camo print. I pull mine up so that they are just below my belly button because personally I prefer a high waisted legging. Squat proof which is always a must have and really comfortable for exercising in. I much prefer the stuff where the logo is not so obvious (as you will notice from the rest of my haul) just because I generally don’t wear things if they have big logos. All in all I rate these pretty highly and will probably order more of their leggings….just in a slightly smaller size.

IMG_7936

Next up is the Just Strong Sports Bra…

Now this was the most disappointing. Given that it’s branded as a sports bra there is absolutely NO support so I would probably call this a crop top. Design wise I really like the band saying just strong and again the logo isn’t too big. Unfortunately I ordered a medium which is definitely too big for me (you can see it gaping at my arm pits). The material isn’t the nicest and it’s incredibly thin which is probably due to that fact its 96% polyester and makes it feel cheap. It looks fine in pictures but I can’t say I’ve worn it to the gym. A shame because I really do like the style it just isn’t practical.
IMG_7913Staying in the sports bra/crop top area lets talk about the Just Strong Emblem Crop Top.

Possibly my favourite thing that I got. Again I feel it is misnamed because this is much more like a sports bra than a crop top. 90% nylon 10% elastane and a much nicer feel. I got a size small and I think I’ll be getting everything in this size from now on. Very comfortable and actually surprisingly supportive although I wouldn’t try any high impact sport in it. A flattering fit definitely my new favourite sports bra. Would 100% get this again.

Having said that the Emblem Crop was my favourite I have to say this next one is also up there. The Jet Black Mesh Tee.IMG_7898

So cute. Its 90% polyester 10% elastane so is good and stretchy as well as being breathable. The mesh inserts on the sleeves are a nice touch and the insert on the back helps with breathability as well as looking really nice. Without the mesh it would really just be a plain oversized tee so it is definitely the key feature of this top. There is also a drawstring cord which I use to make the top a more cropped style although it is less flattering than just having it loose. I got this in a size small (I think) and it fits perfectly. Great for those days when you don’t feel like showing your tummy so far it’s got a good amount of use.

Last but not least… the Jet Black Cropped Hoodie. IMG_7742

I got this one in a size small but I probably could’ve gotten away with a medium. Comfy and great for throwing on when going to and from the gym or as casual wear with jeans. The pockets are a bit too small to be useful – my phone fits but it doesn’t seem secure. Even though its a cropped hoodie it hits your waist at a really nice length and with high waisted jeans/leggings you aren’t showing too much midriff. I’ve already got a lot of wear out of this one and am contemplating getting it in another colour.

And that brings us to the end of our little haul. I’m quickly going to talk about shipping… not the speediest (we’re talking 7 days minimum) but comes with a little note thanking you for supporting the brand which is so lovely!

If you do get anything from them, want to see more pics of what they look like, if you liked this post, if you want to see more like this lemme know over on Instagram:

Queenie Ke: A Review

Are these £16 Amazon leggings any good? Or is it better to invest in a pricer pair?

What’s in my gym bag

IMG_0329

First day in the gym and one of the first things I clock is the vending machines but these aren’t ordinary vending machines. They don’t sell your favourite chocolate bars instead they sell towels and padlocks…and they ain’t cheap. So my first gym bag essential has to be a Poundland padlock! Personally I prefer the combination locks because who wants to carry a key around the gym and then potentially leave it on the floor by that machine you used half an hour ago. Big up Poundland for their selection of padlocks. I ended up getting a pack of 2 that I think were designed for suitcases and splitting it with a friend but still it works just fine. I forgot to take it with me once and honestly it was the worst gym session. I couldn’t focus on what I was doing because I was so worried about my bag, I know realistically it was very unlikely that anyone would take my bag but still better safe than sorry amirite!

IMG_0328.JPGGym bag item number 2 – BCAA’s. Now it took me a while to get on the BCAA train and I think it is very important to remember that supplements are NOT necessary to make progress. BCAA’s or branched chain amino acids are very popular within the fitness industry and you will see lots of fitness bloggers and the like promoting or talking about them. Your body doesn’t produce all the proteins your body needs, some of them have to come from your diet and BCAA’s contain 3 of those proteins which help to maintain and grow muscle. I drink them during my workout but you can have them before or after it just depends what you want to do. My favourite flavour so far (I’ve only tried 3 so it’s not that difficult a contest) is the MyProtien Tropical Storm flavour. I bought the smallest pouch nearly 6 months ago and I’m still not half way through it! I also bought this little tub from them to store it in instead of the pouch that it comes in because it is so much easier to transport. Fair warning though it makes a right mess trying to get it into the tub! I use the MyProtein active women mini shaker because 1 – it’s purple and 2 – its perfect size for a workout drink. Fair warning though the colour of your BCAA’s might end up staining the top of the lid…it comes off in a couple of washes though so it’s not the end of the world!

IMG_0327Gym music – I either love it or hate it. Some days they are playing all the tunes other days…not so much. For those days There is nothing better than a good pair of wireless headphones. I tried the wired ones…did not end well. I am lucky enough to own a pair of Beats and they are amazing but obviously a bit on the pricey side. There are plenty of cheaper options on Amazon if you shop around a bit. I also had an unfortunate incident where my headphones ran out mid workout. So I now keep my old pair in my gym bag as well as a spare pair should that happen again! These are great though they really block out all other sound so you can really focus on you and what you’re doing.

IMG_0331.JPGI know I’ve talked about this water bottle before but I honestly don’t go anywhere without it! If I’m doing quite a high intensity workout I need more than just my BCAA’s so this big water bottle comes in handy. I suppose I could just go to the fountain and back but that’s a lot of effort and I could lose my spot and I would definitely lose my rhythm and concentration (I’m easily distracted). The little hook means I can hold it on one finger as well so it’s easy to move around even though I also have my BCAA’s (all of the fluids – gotta stay hydrated).

IMG_0330.JPGLast but not least my final gym essential is my set of resistance bands. I love taking inspiration from other peoples workouts on Instagram and youtube and a resistance band is somewhat a must have. I can never workout where they are in the gym so I have found it easier to just bring my own. This pack contains 4 bands of varying strength – light, medium, strong and extra strong. Personally I use the medium and strong the most.  Resistance bands are also great for at home workouts.

It’s 2018! New year and time for New Years resolutions, here are my top tips for sticking to your “get healthy and go to the gym” resolution.
