Skin Care Saviours

I am definitely guilty of being lazy when it comes to taking skin care seriously. However, in order to be a proper #adult I decided to start taking better care of it. But there is so much out there to choose from, there’s toners and lotions and potions galore, so to make life easier for you here are my go to products.

For everyday cleansing

Camomile cleansing butter

camomile-sumptuous-cleansing-butter-6-640x640
The Body Shop – Camomile Cleansing Butter – £11

I picked this one up because I was intrigued by the concept of a cleansing butter and after one use I was hooked.

It’s super easy to use, and it leaves my skin feeling really soft. Although, it isn’t the best at removing eye make up.

I really like cleansers that can be applied to a dry face as it speeds up the process. I am much less likely to properly clean my face if I have to wait for the tap to run warm before I even start the cleaning process.

Camomile make up remover

camomile-gentle-eye-make-up-remover-1088059-camomilegentleeyemake-upremover250ml-2-640x640
The Body Shop – Camomile Eye Make-up Remover – £7.50

When I picked up the cleansing butter I decided to try the eye make up remover as well and it did not disappoint.

I wasn’t sure if I would like this one but they sell a mini version of it as part of a gift set with the cleansing butter. Mini’s are a great way to try new products without spending loads of money. The number of times I have bought a product that has been super hyped up only to use it 3 times and forget about it.

When I finish my mini bottle I will definitely be going back for a big one!

Micellar water

3381835
Simple – Micellar Cleansing Water – £3.49

If I can’t be bothered to do a proper clean with the butter then I’ll use micellar water, I also have a mini version to take with me when I go on trips.

Micellar water is great for giving your skin a good cleanse when you haven’t got water to hand. I will tend to use this after using a make up wipe to try and get as clean as possible. Also because I often feel like wipes don’t take all the makeup off, using micellar water gets the last bits off.

For the super deep clean

Himalayan charcoal clay wash

himalayan-charcoal-purifying-clay-wash-2-640x640
The Body Shop – Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Clay Wash – £10

When I’m in the shower I’ll do a proper deep clean using this face wash.

I particularly like this one as it contains tea-tree which helps with break outs. It also doesn’t leave my skin feeling dry at all, which some deep cleansers do. It unclogs pores which I think is really important to properly get rid of all the pollution and grime your face picks up during the day.

And, as if that isn’t enough, it smells amazing!

Seaweed exfoliator

seaweed-pore-cleansing-exfoliator-7-640x640
The Body Shop – Seaweed Exfoliator – £11

Once I’ve cleansed its time to exfoliate. There’s just something about an exfoliator that leaves skin feeling super smooth that I just love.

I have sensitive skin so I need an exfoliator that isn’t too harsh and this one is perfect.

For the break outs

All things Tea-Tree

I use the Skin Clearing Clay Mask once a week, twice if I’m having a particularly bad skin week (Mother Nature I’m looking at you). Every night I use the Night Lotion on areas that are particularly prone to breaking out. I find if I use it all over it just makes the problem worse. Then to finish off I use the Targeted Spot Gel. Does what it says on the tin really, it reduces spots overnight. I’ll use this twice a day on spots until they disappear, which is normally one or two days.

So there you have it, the lazy girls guide to skin care. What are your go to skin care saviours?

Ways to up your nail game

If my nails don’t have polish on I do not feel complete! Here are my 6 top tips for making your nails look their best.

Drugstore Makeup Haul

A little review of the make up I’ve collected over the last month. I say little….I may have quite a bit to share!

Ways to up your nail game

Anyone else like having their nails done but also not a fan of paying someone to do it for you? If my nails don’t have polish on I do not feel complete! Here are some of my top tips for getting the salon look from the comfort of your own bedroom…

1. Buy some falsies.

Screenshot 2020-02-19 at 20.23.35

Sick of forever smudging your nails or having to sit there unable to move for 3 hours to make sure they are really properly dry? This one is for you.

There are so many ready painted stick on nails you can get these days – just pop into Boots or Primark – or if you want to get a bit more creative, buy a big pack of plain ones and paint them yourself.

You can buy them in the shape you want and then cut or file them down to size. I use a nail art stand from Amazon and once I’ve got the nails to the right shape and size, paint them and let them dry before sticking them on. Voila, no smudging!

2. Gel polish

Screenshot 2020-02-19 at 20.15.57Want to keep your natural nails? No problem! This one is a bit more of an investment but worth it in the long run. You can get a full starter kit from Mylee for under £60 which includes the lamp, plus 4 gel polishes, gel polish remover and a top and base coat. Or if you want to be a bit more economical there are lamps on amazon for under £30.

Gel’s are great for avoiding the smudge problem but also will last up to 4 weeks if you take care of them properly.

3. Fun top coats

Screenshot 2020-02-19 at 20.16.16Want something a bit more out there than a plain colour but not the most creative? Never fear, the fun top coat is here! Using a fun top coat is an easy way to add more to your manicure. Use on all your nails or just one as an accent.

My personal favourites are the funfetti (No. 920 – pictured) and stars in your eyes (No. 477) from candy coat. To get the best out of these products I would recommend using a little paint brush to position the bigger pieces and spread them out to get your desired affect.

4. Glitter

Screenshot 2020-02-19 at 20.15.30Accent nails are another easy way to spice up your manicure. You can go simple and just do one whole glitter nail, or you can go all out and have all your nails glittery. I almost always end up adding some glitter to my nails, these are one of my favourite sets I have done. By doing a glitter ombre it means it isn’t too much for every day but it still has a good amount of sparkle!

To do an ombre you can either use a sponge or a specific paintbrush. There are loads of YouTube tutorials on this.

5. Go dotty

Screenshot 2020-02-19 at 19.48.27

Nail art can be quite daunting so start simple and add some dots for a cute look. You can get a set of dotting tools from Amazon for under £2. As you get braver you can experiment with different dot sizes, overlapping them, using multiple colours. The possibilities are endless, and so easy to do!

Lacking inspiration? Instagram is my go to. There are loads of nail accounts which you can look to for new ideas and patterns.

6. Cuticle oil and moisturiser

Want to get that post salon shine and glow? Pick up some cuticle oil and use post manicure or just on natural nails to keep your skin looking fresh. Oh, and don’t forget to moisturise – you don’t want to spend all that time making your nails look good to have dry hands!

Let me know if you try any of these!

I post all my nail pics over on instagram, find them here: @lottiedoesnails

Drugstore Makeup Haul

Where to start! I’ve got a fair amount to get through so I’m just gonna jump right in! I’ll group things by brand and link it all at the bottom.

Lottie London

I used to get all my makeup brushes from Lottie London so now that they’re rolling out lots of makeup I have been wanting to try a selection of their stuff. Firstly their packaging is super cute, I really like the metallic logo and product names on the liquid lipstick and eye foils, definitely the sort of thing you want to display on your makeup table (or desk in my case).

IMG_4598Blush Crush – £4.95

Blush crush comes in 6 shades all named after celebrities: Justin, Zayn, Zac, Drake, Nick and Harry

I couldn’t decide between the shades Zayn and Justin as they both looked quite peachy and I like a peachy blush. In the end I chose the shade Zayn.

These are SO pigmented, seriously, INSANELY pigmented!

You only need a small amount of product to add colour to your cheeks. The mirror is a really good size as well which is definitely a selling point.

Is it worth the money? Definitely, for a cheap drugstore blusher its a really nice formula and has great pigmentation. If anything its a little too pigmented which makes it hard to work with, you need to blend… A LOT so that you don’t look like crazy

Would I buy it again? Probably although I don’t think I will need to for a really long time given how little product you need to get the desired affect.

FacetuneGlitter Switch liquid lipstick – £6.95

I have to say I mainly picked this up because I was intrigued by the idea of “Glitter Switch” but also this coral colour was calling my name! The idea is that once the lipstick is dry you can press your lips together to reveal glitter lips.

This one comes in 4 shades Wanted, High Roller, Dream on and Killin’ it. I’ve picked up High Roller.

It has a slim doe foot applicator, which isn’t the easiest to use. The colour is gorgeous and the glitter switch is really cool. Although not really an everyday sort of thing, maybe for more of a festival or night time look.

In terms of staying power… it is extremely long lasting! The swatch I did on my hand in Superdrug took a lot of scrubbing to remove.

Worth the money? £7 is not a huge amount to pay for a liquid lipstick and it is definitely worth it.

Would I buy it again? Yes yes yes, I want this in every colour! The staying power alone is enough to convince me.

IMG_4611Eye Foil metallic eyeshadow topper – £4.95

So this only comes in four shades denied, faded, fire and savage. I couldn’t choose just one so I picked up 2 of them… fire and savage.

I find it a little odd that they decided to call a blue shade fire because it makes me think of warm tones and oranges and reds not blue. Either way this shade is stunning! As is the pink shade, savage. Although on the eye its not as pink as it is in the bottle.

I haven’t had the chance to use the blue shade yet, its not the most versatile colour as I only see it working with blue or purple eye looks. I have used the pink shade though, and it makes a poppin’ inner corner highlight as well as looking good all over the lid.

Worth the money? Yes, I’ve seen other people call it a dupe for the stila magnificent metals (which is much more expensive)

Would I buy it again? Yes, although as a person who rarely wears bold eye looks I’m probably wouldn’t buy the blue one again because as much as I love it, I just don’t see myself using it enough.

Bourjois

Facetune 3Healthy mix Anti-Fatigue Concealer – £9

My current holy grail, I cannot live without this!

It claims to be medium coverage but I think it’s more like full coverage which makes it perfect for covering up dark circles. I picked up the shade 53 because I have the foundation equivalent of this in the same shade.

I really like the formula of this and it smells sort of fruity like the foundation. They also blend really nicely together.

Worth the money? It’s not the cheapest concealer but honestly it’s so good I don’t mind paying a bit more for it. I will probably wait for a 3 for 2 deal though…

Would I buy it again? Yes yes yes and YES!

IMG_4618Volume Clubbing Mascara – £7.99

I have to say this is the first mascara I’ve owned that isn’t a plastic brush, and I really like it! It gives a much more natural look while still adding volume and length. It’s my go to everyday mascara now.

I probably wouldn’t choose to wear it with a full face of makeup (bold eyes, bold lips, the works) but its perfect for natural makeup.

Worth the money? £7.99 is not a lot to pay for mascara and the brush is so nice, it could easily be more than that.

Would I buy it again? Probably although I’ve had better mascaras, but for a subtle look this is the perfect mascara.

IMG_4593Le Petit Strober – £6.49

I only picked up this highlighter because it was free (it was a spend £12 get a free highlighter deal) and I am really glad I didn’t pay for it…

It looks like such a stunning colour but it is so hard to get any pigmentation! Which is super annoying, however if you are after a more subtle everyday glow then this is the highlighter for you. After all we can’t all wonder round looking like glazed donuts now can we!

It comes with a little brush which to be honest isn’t very useful, and more than anything just gets in the way.

Worth the money? No, I’ve had £5 highlighters that are 1000 times better than this one.

Would I buy it again? No, I doubt I’ll even use it that much to be honest.

Nyx

IMG_4607Honey Dew Me Up Primer – £15

I have wanted to try this for SO LONG! I’ve put it off for ages but I couldn’t resist any longer.

It smells amazing, and it really does remind me of honey with its colour and sparkles suspended in it.

The little plastic spatula style applicator is a bit odd but I found it means I don’t apply too much. When I first put it on it felt a bit oily but it soon sunk in and became more tacky feeling.

Worth the money? Personally I don’t think I can be dropping £15 on primer all the time, but this is a really nice primer. It has a really lux feel to it.

Would I buy it again? Definitely!

IMG_4613Soft Matte Metallic Lip Cream – £6

So I actually thought I had picked up the non-metallic version of this and was a bit annoyed at myself when I realised I in fact picked up the metallic version. This is the shade Copenhagen.

I have the soft matte lip cream in the shade London  and really like the formula so thought I would try another colour. Despite it being metallic I actually love this colour! It isn’t to shiny or sparkly which is a relief and means its actually quite wearable. I also picked up the matching suede matte lip liner (also in the shade Copenhagen – £4) and the suede matte lip liner to match my other lip cream (London). The lip liners apply really nicely so I’m glad I got them. Never underestimate the importance of a good lip liner!

Worth the money? It’s quite a small tube for £6 but it is a nice formula. Nyx is a little bit more expensive than other “drug store” brands so I would expect to pay a bit more for anything from them. I suppose it is worth the money.

Would I buy it again? Yes but in the matte version not metallic, I am a much bigger fan of matte lipsticks.

IMG_4617Contour Powder – £3.50

I needed a replacement contour powder, and I didn’t want to splash out on a whole palette so when I saw that Nyx sold these little single powders I picked one up. I went for the shade Sienna which is described as “matte light brown with pink undertones”. I tried to pick a cool shade, but I didn’t want to go too cool because it can look grey.

Worth the money? I think so, it’s cheaper than buying a huge palette and only using one colour. There are also so many shades to choose from so you could definitely find the shade that’s right for you.

Would I buy it again? Definitely, depending on how I like the shade, I might choose a cooler or warmer toned powder.

Rimmel London

IMG_4620Scandaleyes Wow Wings Mascara – £6.99

Firstly the packaging is super cute, I am a sucker for anything with a holographic logo!

IMG_4621

I bought this because I was intrigued by the wand more than anything. One side is like a normal styled wand, the other side is shaped like a wing.

When I first started using this I have to say I found it really hard to use, it made my lashes so clumpy! Now that its been used a little bit and has started drying out slightly it’s much easier to use and I like it a lot better.

Worth the money? £7 isn’t a lot to pay for a mascara so I would say definitely.

Would I buy it again? Yes, but I wouldn’t wait for my old one to run out fully because it takes a while to get to a point where it is actually usable.

Revolution

Facetune_08-09-2018-22-56-51Conceal and Define Concealer – £4

Hailed as the must have dupe for Tarte Shape Tape I had to try this!

It comes in LOADS of shades, I picked up the shade C8 which is perfect for me at the moment post summer while I still have a tan, I think I’ll need a lighter shade for the winter. Also it’s worth knowing that the shade does change slightly when its applied as it oxidises quite quickly.

The doe foot applicator is a quite big, which is nice and makes it feel a bit more expensive.

Worth the money? Hell yea! £4 is so good for such a nice concealer and they now do a supersize version for £7!

Would I buy it again? I would, and I would probably pick up the bigger bottle as well!

And that concludes my (massive) drug store make up haul!

What make up should I try next? Leave me a comment if you have any good drug store make up suggestions or products you think I should try and let me know if you want more hauls (make up or otherwise)

February Favourites

Lets jump right in!

Facetune_22-02-2018-18-38-58

First up is this cute set from Flexxfit. The material is so soft and comfy, the bra is super flattering (although maybe only for low intensity exercise for risk of nip slip!) and I’m a big fan of this colour. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about the grey but it makes a nice change from black while still being plain enough to go with plenty of colours.  But if you’re not feeling the grey it comes in plenty of other colours. I wear the bra in a medium and the leggings in a small and I’m a UK 10/12.

IMG_9618

Keeping with flexxfit, this “Muscle tee” has been my go to workout top since I nabbed it in the sale. Its not the most breathable workout top but its nice and loose so you don’t notice as much. Loose enough to hide a food baby but not so loose its unflattering and it goes with everything! Including the grey set. Who doesn’t love matching activewear eh!? Look good feel good ima right! Sadly it’s sold out now but they have loads of other cute stuff. I wear this one in a size small and it fits perfectly, if you wanted a looser fit I would size up.

IMG_9999

Now lets mix it up and talk about my favourite skin care product this month. Simple skin quench sleeping cream. Since using this my face is so soft and glowy! I have very sensitive skin so I have to be careful what I use but simple always works for me so when I decided to up my skincare game after a few breakouts I went straight for simple. This moisturiser is ideal for me as its a night cream rather than a morning one, I like sleep to much to get up in time to do a full skincare routine of a morning. Its nice and light too so doesn’t clog any pores. All around winner!

IMG_0005

Next up is my new favourite app! Recently I’ve been trying to branch out with my cooking and I came across “kitchen stories”. Its full of how to guides as well as recipes. You can also leave a review of the recipe meaning before you try something you can see what other people thought of them. It has a shopping list feature and also a “cookbook” and likes section so you can save all your favourite recipes in one easy to find place. Its made working out what to eat much easier! Would highly recommend to anyone who isn’t confident in the kitchen.

fullsizeoutput_1e71Finally its back to active wear (shocking I know) and the myprotein seamless leggings. I know I already reviewed these but I had to give them a little mention because they’re so comfy and proved perfect for layering when storm Emma hit over the weekend! Loving the colour of these as well as the fit and feel.

And thats it for my February faves!

Skin Care Saviours

I was guilty of neglecting my skin care routine because I’m too lazy for hundreds of different lotions and potions. So I simplified it. Here are my must have products and my lazy girls guide to skin care.

July Favourites: Fitness, Beauty and more!

In July I may have shopped a little more than I should have being a poor student that needs to save money. In an attempt to justify my spending habits I thought what better way to convince yourself you needed all these things than to write a blog post about it. So here it is, my monthly favourites for July.

img_6817-1Let’s jump straight in with leggings. Now I am 100% a self confessed active wear addict so when I bought another pair of leggings there was some opposition… BUT I’m glad I ignored that because these were worth every penny. These cost me £30 in the ProDirect Running sale (not including shipping) down from £50 – a real bargain for a pair of Nike Legend leggings (activewear lovers you know what I’m talking about). The Khaki colour goes with so much and the little mesh inserts down the side are super cute. I have barely taken them off since I got them… as you can probably tell from my instagram feed. I will definitely be doing a more in depth review of these soon so look out for that!

Keeping with the fitness theme lets move on to my next favourite: my water bottle. I IMG_7086am so guilty of not drinking enough water and this bottle is really helping with that. It’s a good size with measurements down the side so it’s great if you are really trying to keep an accurate account of how much you’re drinking. The best thing about it though without doubt is the straw. You don’t even realise how much you’ve drunk! The little hook on the top makes it so easy to grab and keep hold of. I haven’t actually been anywhere without it since I bought it. Fair warning though if you don’t pop that straw down properly and then put this in your bag it will leak (I learnt this the hard way). This was a little bit more than I would have normally paid for a water bottle but it was exactly what I was looking for and was one of the cheapest options. I know primark used to sell water bottles with straws but I couldn’t find them in any of the primarks I went to, which initially was annoying but in reality this Nike one will probably last longer than one from primark.

So I’ve just realised that both things I’ve mentioned are Nike… this wasn’t intentional I promise not to mention any more Nike things.

Now moving on to non fitness faves. First I’m going to talk makeup. I am one of those people who whenever I pass a boots or a Superdrug I always just pop in to have a look and end up leaving with loads of stuff I don’t need (RIP my bank account). I got 3 new makeup items – 1 of which I actually needed, 2 of which were impulse buys. FullSizeRenderWe’ll start with the one I needed: powder. I went for the insta fix and matte translucent powder from rimmel London. As a girl that has never used powder I wasn’t sure if I would like it, I thought it might make make me look really pale and washed out (it looks really white before you put it on the brush) but it doesn’t make me look like a ghost so I would call this a success. It also really helps to keep my make up on through the day. So I would call this a success and would 100% buy it again especially considering it was only a fiver. Next make up fave is the insta duo contour stick again from rimmel London. It makes contouring so quick and easy, but blending is a must. Do not, I repeat DO NOT, use it without blending. It’s a thick stick and is really pigmented so if you don’t blend you will just have a random brown line on your face…not the best look. The stick comes in light, medium and dark, I went for medium and this one cost £7 (well actually £6.99 but that’s the same as £7 really isn’t it). I don’t use the highlight end that much though because I prefer powder highlight but that’s just personal preference. My final makeup item is the Provacalips lip colour in the shade Berry Seductive – colour code 420 – from Rimmel London (shock). I have this in 3 other colours and honestly I cannot rave about it enough! I bought it after I heard this lady telling her friend how she had worn it on a night out and it had stayed on perfectly through many many drinks and I thought it was worth a shot. Shout out to you random lady in Superdrug because you were not wrong this stuff is amazing! It stays on all day and doesn’t smudge. A bit hard to get off but so worth it. I can guarantee I will be getting this in more colours.

Mixing it up a bit I’m going to tell you about the TV I’ve been binging on. Recently I’ve been really into documentaries. I love trashy TV – I watched love island religiously – but you know sometimes you’re just in the mood for something a bit different. So I’ve properly binge watched Reggie Yates: Extreme on Netflix. Would definitely recommend, so interesting and informative. Documentaries are great because they make you think about stuff you wouldn’t normally even give a second thought to. The series sees Reggie travel to South Africa and Russia looking into what life is like there for certain groups of people. I personally found it really eye opening and if you feel like watching something a bit more hard hitting than your average TV drama this is definitely worth a watch.

Back to the products of my many shopping trips. My final favourite are IMG_7089these shoes. Leather flatform espadrilles from M&S for £39.50. Now before you judge me for buying from Marks and Sparks hear me out. I don’t buy loads from them, it’s definitely one of those places where you need to hunt for the good stuff but when you find it omg. So worth spending that little bit more money on because everything I’ve ever had has lasted so well. Let’s talk more about these shoes. Perfect for summer. I do not own many pairs of shoes that aren’t trainers – I live in trainers – so when I find a pair of proper shoes that I like I just can’t say no. I am so fussy about my shoes, if they aren’t super comfy and easy to walk in I wont wear them. So many pairs of pretty but impractical shoes are sat under my bed gathering dust… these however I have worn loads! The woven flatform gives a nice summery feel while the colour means they go with everything and you can wear them on those grey summer days (yay for British summer).

That concludes all of the things I’ve been loving and unable to live without this month. I’ve linked all of the things I mentioned down below for your shopping pleasure.
