Gymshark VS Myprotein: A review

Everyone raves about the gymshark flex leggings and as a result it can be tricky to get your hands on a pair unless you are online as soon as they go live. So when I came across the myprotein seamless leggings which bare a striking resemblance to the flex leggings I thought they were worth investigating…

THE BASICS

Seamless:

Material: 57% Nylon 40% Polyester 3% Elastane
Colour: Marble Green
Size: I wear a size M – I wear a M in other myprotein leggings, definitely fit true to the size guide on the site
Squat proof: YES
Waist: mid-rise
Price: £32

Both leggings have two tone contouring and I have to say while the contouring on the flex legging is more flattering it’s not very subtle, I much prefer the contouring on the seamless legging which is still flattering but not as in your face!

The waist band on the flex legging is much tighter than the seamless but this could be due to the fact that I have a small in the flex and a medium in the seamless. The waist band on the seamless is therefore more comfortable.

Both leggings are low to mid-rise and I’m more of a high waisted kinda gal myself but these sit at a good point on the waist.

The flex leggings come in a much larger range of colours compared to the seamless. The seamless comes in 4 colours whereas the flex comes in 12 colours. That being said a few of the flex colours do appear to be very similar.

Both leggings cost £34 however myprotein frequently offer deals and discounts so if you wait for one of those the seamless would be cheaper.

CONCLUSION…

These leggings are basically the same, I mean just look at the material they’re nearly identical! I just wish the seamless legging came in a larger variety of colours. Cost wise obviously the seamless is better as they are frequently discounted and also more likely to be in stock. However the majority of the flex leggings do appear to be in stock at the moment.
All in all I wouldn’t say one is better than the other, both are very good pairs of leggings. Personally I do prefer the seamless just because they are more comfortable on the waist but I’m not ready to put away my flex leggings for good just yet!

Just Strong : A Review

So today we are not just talking about leggings (who’s shook) because I did a haul – sorry bank account – from JUST STRONG

Firstly I need to talk about the idea behind this company because it is so great.

“I AM NOT STRONG FOR A GIRL, I AM JUST STRONG”

Because who doesn’t love being stereotyped. Going to the gym shouldn’t be about being skinny it should be about pushing yourself to get stronger. As a girl who enjoys going to the gym I do often get the comments like “but you don’t want to get bulky” no you’re right I don’t “you don’t want to look manly” who said that men were the only ones allowed to have muscles? So when I saw what this brand represented I thought it was pretty damn awesome and I am fortunate enough to be affiliated with them – that being said this will be a completely HONEST review because I gain absolutely nothing by lying to you.

Now that I’ve bored you suitably with my little feminist rant lets get into the review…

Links to everything I talk about will be at the bottom of the post

Since I do have a love (addiction?) of gym leggings we will start with those.

So these are the Charcoal Camo Just Strong Leggings and I got them in a size medium. They are 90% polyester 10% elastane. Fit wise I wish I had gone for a size small just because they are a little too big on the waist. That being said they are very flattering. The seam down the side of the leg acts as a sort of contouring which I really like. As well as the camo print there is a hexagonal honeycomb like pattern but it’s so subtle it definitely doesn’t distract from the camo print. I pull mine up so that they are just below my belly button because personally I prefer a high waisted legging. Squat proof which is always a must have and really comfortable for exercising in. I much prefer the stuff where the logo is not so obvious (as you will notice from the rest of my haul) just because I generally don’t wear things if they have big logos. All in all I rate these pretty highly and will probably order more of their leggings….just in a slightly smaller size.

Next up is the Just Strong Sports Bra…

Now this was the most disappointing. Given that it’s branded as a sports bra there is absolutely NO support so I would probably call this a crop top. Design wise I really like the band saying just strong and again the logo isn’t too big. Unfortunately I ordered a medium which is definitely too big for me (you can see it gaping at my arm pits). The material isn’t the nicest and it’s incredibly thin which is probably due to that fact its 96% polyester and makes it feel cheap. It looks fine in pictures but I can’t say I’ve worn it to the gym. A shame because I really do like the style it just isn’t practical.
IMG_7913Staying in the sports bra/crop top area lets talk about the Just Strong Emblem Crop Top.

Possibly my favourite thing that I got. Again I feel it is misnamed because this is much more like a sports bra than a crop top. 90% nylon 10% elastane and a much nicer feel. I got a size small and I think I’ll be getting everything in this size from now on. Very comfortable and actually surprisingly supportive although I wouldn’t try any high impact sport in it. A flattering fit definitely my new favourite sports bra. Would 100% get this again.

Having said that the Emblem Crop was my favourite I have to say this next one is also up there. The Jet Black Mesh Tee.IMG_7898

So cute. Its 90% polyester 10% elastane so is good and stretchy as well as being breathable. The mesh inserts on the sleeves are a nice touch and the insert on the back helps with breathability as well as looking really nice. Without the mesh it would really just be a plain oversized tee so it is definitely the key feature of this top. There is also a drawstring cord which I use to make the top a more cropped style although it is less flattering than just having it loose. I got this in a size small (I think) and it fits perfectly. Great for those days when you don’t feel like showing your tummy so far it’s got a good amount of use.

Last but not least… the Jet Black Cropped Hoodie. IMG_7742

I got this one in a size small but I probably could’ve gotten away with a medium. Comfy and great for throwing on when going to and from the gym or as casual wear with jeans. The pockets are a bit too small to be useful – my phone fits but it doesn’t seem secure. Even though its a cropped hoodie it hits your waist at a really nice length and with high waisted jeans/leggings you aren’t showing too much midriff. I’ve already got a lot of wear out of this one and am contemplating getting it in another colour.

And that brings us to the end of our little haul. I’m quickly going to talk about shipping… not the speediest (we’re talking 7 days minimum) but comes with a little note thanking you for supporting the brand which is so lovely!

If you do get anything from them, want to see more pics of what they look like, if you liked this post, if you want to see more like this lemme know over on Instagram:

August favourites: fitness and fashion

So I realise we are a far way into September now and I’m only just talking about my faves for August but there’s this little thing called life that sorta got in the way. Anyway here we go, my favourites and loves for August.

IMG_7855

First – these trainers. I had a pair of these before and having had them for about 4 years I decided it was about time they were replaced. They are the nike air pegasus 34’s (everything will be linked at the bottom of my post) and they are so comfortable. I have basically lived in them ever since I got them – which is why they are so grubby…

Next on my favourites list are these pieces from MyProtein. I’ve been wanting a pair of gym shorts for a while now and there was a sale…who can resist a sale. So I picked up the heartbeat shorts in black and then I saw this top was also on sale and again I’ve been wanting a long sleeve gym top for a while so it was a no brainer. The top is so similar to the gymshark seamless top and its cheaper but also doesn’t sell out in 5 mins so is a great alternative and when I decide I need more gym clothes – which lets face it could be tomorrow – I will probably end up getting this in the other colours…

My final favourite for this month is this cropped hoodie from Just Strong. I will be doing a more in depth review and post about Just Strong as I have just ordered a few more bits from them. I love the ethos of Just Strong, it’s a brand that aims to empower women with the idea that we are not strong for a girl we are just strong, which is why I am so happy to work with them and promote their clothing.

There we have it, keeping it short and sweet. Only four favourites for august.

Trainers – a slightly newer colour and design but basically the same

Nike Leggings: A Review

BRAND: Nike

NAME: Nike Women’s Power Legend Veneer Tights

COLOUR: Sequoia/Black

MATERIALS: These leggings are 88% Polyester, 12% Spandex and they are so comfy. Not too stiff and not too baggy. Good and stretchy but still tight fitting, I went for a size medium based on the Nike size guide and while they fit fine I probably could have got away with a small, especially if I wanted more of a compression fit.

OVERALL EXPERIENCE: I ordered these in the sale from prodirect, I say ordered…told my boyfriend who works there that I would like him to get them for me sooo I can’t comment on speed of delivery or anything (soz). They were £30 down from £50 and while I love these leggings I probably wouldn’t pay £50 for them – I am a poor student £50 is too much for just one thing. Navigating the prodirect website is a challenge. Honestly it’s so confusing. They have so many sub categories and things aren’t in the right categories and it’s all just rubbish. I really hated the website but if you’re willing to spend an hour trying to find anything remotely like what you’re looking for then go for it. That being said, they have got a lot of choice and a lot of the big name brands (puma, Nike, adidas etc.) are a bit cheaper on prodirect than they are direct from the brands. If you are buying from a well known brand definitely shop around for the best deal, see where has a sale where might be doing student discount that sort of thing.

SQUAT TEST: Unsurprisingly these passed the squat test with flying colours. They’re
a dark colour and a thick material so no chance of anything showing through. However – as with most leggings – as they are tight fitting you can sometimes see the seam of your pants.

RATING:

IMG_02955/5 Love love love these leggings! So comfy and flattering. They have a nice thick high waist band, and I do love me a high waist band. Perfect for those days when your feeling bloated or a bit insecure about your middle (we all have them) and also they don’t slide down at all – no one wants to show there bum accidentally mid squat now do they! The colour is great and the little mesh panels on the side add a bit of something more interesting to these otherwise reasonably plain leggings. Another feature that I wasn’t sure about but actually really like is the ribbing of the back of the waistband and the bottoms. Actually cannot think of one thing I don’t like about these. I well and truly tested how sweat proof these were buy doing sprints in the park in full sunshine in the middle of summer (British summer mind so it was only about 21 degrees) and I am pleased to say that they were very much sweat proof and they were great temperature wise as well! I didn’t get too hot at all which was surprising considering they’re a dark colour and I was in the sun.

WOULD I BUY THESE AGAIN? Yes but probably only at a sale price, I would like to think because they are Nike that they are good quality and will last really well but only time will tell.
