TALA Activewear Review

When Grace Beverley launched TALA last year I could not wait to get my hands on the affordable and sustainable gym wear but I also couldn’t bring myself to go through the stress of trying to get it the moment it launched. I decided instead to wait for things to restock so that I would actually have a chance to get what I wanted. A year later and my collection of TALA activewear is ever expanding (RIP my bank account). I still have a few things on my wish list because they always seem to be out of stock when I go to order them, but here is a review of the bits I have managed to get my hands on so far.

The Mina Bra

The first piece I ordered from TALA was the Mina bra in the neon pink with grey branding which is part of their Flare collection. I ordered it when they were running a campaign to raise money for the bushfires in Australia, so 50% of the money I paid went to charity. I am a UK 10/12 and the medium fits me well, plenty of compression but doesn’t dig in anywhere. One of the things I was worried about with this one is that it might roll up, I find this can be a problem with longer line sports bras, but it stays in place. All in all I really like this bra, I would probably say it is medium support so fine for low impact activity but I wouldn’t wear it to go running. It is much brighter than the pictures on the website make it look – definitely fluorescent pink!

The Isla Loose Tee

I spend most of my weekend in an oversized tee with either joggers or shorts so I thought I would try the Isla tee. Again I got a size medium and it is an oversized fit, I think I probably could have gotten away with a small and it still would have been baggy and comfy. I really like the subtle embroidered branding on the front of this top, it looks good as activewear but also works tucked into a pair of jeans. I have gotten so much use out of this so it was definitely worth the money!

Eden Zip Top

I waited ages for this one to come back into stock – it was definitely an ‘instagram made me do it’ purchase. The Eden Zip top is made of quite a thick material so personally I fins it a bit too warm to work out in and use it as more for casual everyday wear. It is incredibly flattering, it makes your waist look tiny and keeps everything in just the right place. I would also say it comes up a bit shorter than it appears in the pictures, so if you prefer your tops longer lined then this is maybe not the one for you.

The Zae Short Sleeve Top

This was the only thing I bought the day it launched. Again it was something I could see myself getting a lot of use out of. I got the Zae top in the short sleeve regular length in the colour Chai. The main thing I love about this top is that it is double lined so even though its a light colour you can’t see through it. You can wear this without a bra but personally I  prefer to wear it with one. If I could I would have this in every colour because it is so comfy and easy to style. Although I didn’t get the cropped version it is still quite short in the body so I imagine the cropped one would probably be too short on me.

The Zella Loose Tee

I had my eye on The Zella Loose Tee since it launched the colour was just calling to me! Recently I gave in and finally added it to my collection. I wear my other TALA tee so much I figured I would get a lot of use out of this one as well. Its nice and lightweight making it perfect for summer and it has pretty much the same fit to the Isla tee. The main difference between the two is the placement of the TALA logo.

The Porto Hoodie

My final piece (for now at least!) is the Porto hoodie. It is super comfy and the inside is so soft. It is another oversized fit, the site recommended I needed a large but I am glad I stuck to my usual size because the medium is big enough! I was worried that the branding would be too bright but it’s actually a bit softer in person. My only complaint is the lack of pockets, where is a gal supposed to put her phone!

Do the plant tags work?

I planted my first two tags and it didn’t seem to work. One of them sprouted a little bit and then died and I haven’t tried again since because looking at a pot of soil with no plant in makes me sad. I might give it a go but I think they could do with better instructions on how to actually get the tags to sprout.

In summary…

My collection is by no means complete, I would really like to get my hands on some of the shorts or the leggings but they normally run out of stock before I can buy them. I haven’t been disappointed by a single thing I bought from TALA and I have no doubt I will continue to buy from them for years to come. The postage is generally pretty quick as well which means you don’t have too wait too long for your new goodies!

Have you tried any of the other pieces from TALA, what did you think of them?

Queenie Ke: A Review

Today I am reviewing two different style of legging from the brand Queenie Ke sold on amazon. Queenie Ke approached me to send some of their leggings to me to review and as self confessed legging addict I couldn’t very well pass up the opportunity!

IMG_0138

First up is the “Queenie Ke Women Yoga Leggings Ninth Pants Power Flex High Waist Gym Running Tights” – such a catchy name – in the colour teal. I ordered a size small and they fit perfectly. They’re good and stretchy but still tight enough on the waist. All of the Queenie Ke leggings have an elastic in the top for tightening the waist as well as a large phone pocket inside on the back of the leggings. IMG_0233

These hit the perfect point on my waist, not too high and not too low!
I really like this colour too, its different to anything I own. Good for spring (if we ever have one!) because its colourful but still dark enough for days when its a bit grey and you don’t want to crack out anything too light or bright.

IMG_0232   The stitching on the back is slightly curved which is nice and flattering on the booty. Straight seams can create a sort of double butt look…no one wants that! The curved seam sits above the booty giving it a nice shape.

The material is thick enough to be squat proof but still breathable so they’re sweat proof as well.
All in all these get a 10/10 from me! And only £15.88!

IMG_0074
The second pair is the “Queenie Ke Women Yoga Legging Power Flex High Waist Running Pants Workout Tights” in space dye purple again in size small and these ones cost £16.88. These fit well BUT omg the high waist is SO high, these are not made for my gals with short torsos! They come all the way up to my sports bra! They don’t have any compression either so theres not really any advantage to this super super high waist.

These have a straight seam but its high enough that the leggings are still flattering. The seams on the legs are slightly slanted so really make your quads pop. All in all a nice flattering fit.
The material of these is more shiny than the other leggings, and the elasticity can be mistaken for sheerness. Definitely squat proof though – I put these through two heavy leg days and they fared really well! They were nice and breathable and didn’t show sweat at all!

The colour is really cute and the space dye effect is a nice way to add pattern and texture without it being too in your face.
IMG_0231

I think I would give these an 8/10. Comfy but the waist is too high! Its almost double the size of the other leggings! That being said the quality is great for such a cheap pair of leggings.

Both leggings come in a selection of colours and for a cheeky 5% you can use these codes:

Amazon UK: QUEENIEK
Amazon US: QUEENIEUS
Amazon CA: QUEENIEC

February Favourites

Lets jump right in!

Facetune_22-02-2018-18-38-58

First up is this cute set from Flexxfit. The material is so soft and comfy, the bra is super flattering (although maybe only for low intensity exercise for risk of nip slip!) and I’m a big fan of this colour. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about the grey but it makes a nice change from black while still being plain enough to go with plenty of colours.  But if you’re not feeling the grey it comes in plenty of other colours. I wear the bra in a medium and the leggings in a small and I’m a UK 10/12.

Keeping with flexxfit, this “Muscle tee” has been my go to workout top since I nabbed it in the sale. Its not the most breathable workout top but its nice and loose so you don’t notice as much. Loose enough to hide a food baby but not so loose its unflattering and it goes with everything! Including the grey set. Who doesn’t love matching activewear eh!? Look good feel good ima right! Sadly it’s sold out now but they have loads of other cute stuff. I wear this one in a size small and it fits perfectly, if you wanted a looser fit I would size up.

Now lets mix it up and talk about my favourite skin care product this month. Simple skin quench sleeping cream. Since using this my face is so soft and glowy! I have very sensitive skin so I have to be careful what I use but simple always works for me so when I decided to up my skincare game after a few breakouts I went straight for simple. This moisturiser is ideal for me as its a night cream rather than a morning one, I like sleep to much to get up in time to do a full skincare routine of a morning. Its nice and light too so doesn’t clog any pores. All around winner!

Next up is my new favourite app! Recently I’ve been trying to branch out with my cooking and I came across “kitchen stories”. Its full of how to guides as well as recipes. You can also leave a review of the recipe meaning before you try something you can see what other people thought of them. It has a shopping list feature and also a “cookbook” and likes section so you can save all your favourite recipes in one easy to find place. Its made working out what to eat much easier! Would highly recommend to anyone who isn’t confident in the kitchen.

fullsizeoutput_1e71Finally its back to active wear (shocking I know) and the myprotein seamless leggings. I know I already reviewed these but I had to give them a little mention because they’re so comfy and proved perfect for layering when storm Emma hit over the weekend! Loving the colour of these as well as the fit and feel.

And thats it for my February faves!

Gymshark VS Myprotein: A review

Everyone raves about the gymshark flex leggings and as a result it can be tricky to get your hands on a pair unless you are online as soon as they go live. So when I came across the myprotein seamless leggings which bare a striking resemblance to the flex leggings I thought they were worth investigating…

THE BASICS

fullsizeoutput_158

Flex
:

Material: 56% Nylon 41% Polyester 3% Elastane

Size: I wear a size S and am a UK 10/12 – they are very very stretchy
Squat proof: YES I always feel safe to wear these on leg day
Waist: mid-rise
Price: £32

fullsizeoutput_1e71

Seamless:

Material: 57% Nylon 40% Polyester 3% Elastane
Colour: Marble Green
Size: I wear a size M – I wear a M in other myprotein leggings, definitely fit true to the size guide on the site
Squat proof: YES
Waist: mid-rise
Price: £32

Both leggings have two tone contouring and I have to say while the contouring on the flex legging is more flattering it’s not very subtle, I much prefer the contouring on the seamless legging which is still flattering but not as in your face!

The waist band on the flex legging is much tighter than the seamless but this could be due to the fact that I have a small in the flex and a medium in the seamless. The waist band on the seamless is therefore more comfortable.

Both leggings are low to mid-rise and I’m more of a high waisted kinda gal myself but these sit at a good point on the waist.

The flex leggings come in a much larger range of colours compared to the seamless. The seamless comes in 4 colours whereas the flex comes in 12 colours. That being said a few of the flex colours do appear to be very similar.

Both leggings cost £34 however myprotein frequently offer deals and discounts so if you wait for one of those the seamless would be cheaper.

CONCLUSION…

These leggings are basically the same, I mean just look at the material they’re nearly identical! I just wish the seamless legging came in a larger variety of colours. Cost wise obviously the seamless is better as they are frequently discounted and also more likely to be in stock. However the majority of the flex leggings do appear to be in stock at the moment.
All in all I wouldn’t say one is better than the other, both are very good pairs of leggings. Personally I do prefer the seamless just because they are more comfortable on the waist but I’m not ready to put away my flex leggings for good just yet!
